Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden acquires Guardian Uma by Devon DeJardin

The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden has acquired Guardian Uma by Devon DeJardin for its permanent collection. DeJardin’s practice explores the journey of spiritual self-fashioning and protection, translating these concepts into complex, geometric forms that embody guidance and monumentality.

 

Guardian Uma exemplifies DeJardin’s use of sculptural language to merge figurative presence with abstraction. Drawing on techniques inspired by the Old Masters, the work employs dramatic chiaroscuro and a rich, limited palette, giving the figure a tactile quality within its atmospheric environment.
